The routine contains the elements you just learned, plus some variations and ways to connect them; it is meant to be learned by memory and executed under the assumption that your partner knows how to respond to the moves, especially the footwork, some part of which needs to be known by both dancers.

There is not much room for improvisation since the moves are very choreographed and would be difficult to lead if you were not dancing with your partner.

However, since many people prefer to dance this often close dance with their regular partner this may not be a problem.
